Steve Randall’s path to pharma tech leadership started with economics—an unexpected but powerful foundation for understanding systems, incentives, and human behavior. He began his career as a business analyst at United Healthcare—his first exposure to healthcare—where he learned how complex corporations operate. He then worked at Guardian Life Insurance before spending nearly 20 years at Medco Health Solutions, helping grow it from a startup to a multibillion-dollar public enterprise. His biggest challenge came when Medco was acquired by Express Scripts, when he led a team of 100 through the largest healthcare data migration in industry history, at the time. Five leaders had abandoned the project before him, but he achieved a 99.5% accuracy rate. “I learned how to be a leader,” he said. Several team members from that project later followed him to ConnectiveRx.

Steve Takes CRx Technology to the Next Level

Steve joined ConnectiveRx with the goal of transforming its young technology department from a small group with minimal structure into a critical driver of the company’s growth. He focused on building a structured team with clearly defined roles, implementing formal development lifecycles, and establishing quality assurance protocols. In 2023, ConnectiveRx leadership created the Chief Technology Architect role just for him.
